A multifaceted lager yeast blend, also capable of pressurized fermentation, creates a beer that is elegant and crisp, with subtle citrus aromas. From American Light Lagers to Cold IPAs, Mythical Hammer transcends the boundaries of lager beer.
A couple of weeks ago, I was chatting with a buddy about the different beer styles he enjoyed while he was in Germany aside from the usual Hefeweizens. He brought up this beer called Pirminator the Terminator from Park Brau. Good luck finding much info on it, other than the fact that it’s a Helles Bock. So, I figured why not try brewing one myself? Not a Pirminator clone, just a solid Helles Bock.
Now, I know WLP808 isn’t the most traditional yeast strain for this style, but honestly, it fermented really well. I was a little concerned the citrus notes might impact the fermentation or the final flavor, but it turned out great. It’s still got a few weeks left to lager, but even now, it’s tasting like a fantastic beer. Funny enough, I kegged it just days before heading down to White Labs in San Diego to hang out with the team and learn more about the their yeast process, and a more in-depth of how it all works from a lab perspective. Perfect timing!
