The FTSs Touch by Ss Brewtech: Precision Fermentation Simplified

Right out of the box, the FTSs Touch looks and feels like a serious upgrade. SsBrewtech already had a solid temp control system, but this version takes it up a notch with a slick touchscreen, cleaner design, and way more control over your fermentations. Setup was super straightforward, so if you’ve got a Chronical, Unitank or even a Brew Bucket, this thing practically installs itself. The screen is bright, easy to navigate, and includes preset temps for both fermentation and crashing.

How It Performs

I used it on my Portuguese rice lager — around 52°F until fermentation was 70% of the way complete, and then ramped up for a diacetyl rest at 59°F, and finally down to near-freezing. I am able to get to as low as 37°F. The FTSs Touch held temps steady the entire way, which I was pretty impressed with. In the past I have used Inkbirds and while they get the job done, I felt that the FTSs has better control over the temperature. The pump is surprisingly quiet too, which I appreciated since.

What I Liked

  • Touchscreen controls: Way easier than the old-school controllers, or competitors. Clear, responsive, and simple.
  • Touch of a button: Nice being able to change from fermentation to cold crashing with the touch of a button on the screen.
  • Consistency: It nails temps and keeps them locked in. I like that I can see the 00.0 numbers of the temperature.
  • Build quality: As usual with SS Brewtech, this thing feels like it’ll last forever.

A Few Nitpicks

  • It’s not exactly cheap, but honestly, for what it does? Worth every penny.
  • No remote access or app (which is fine — not having to fiddle with an app is kinda nice).

Final Thoughts

If you’re already deep into homebrewing and looking to tighten up your fermentation game, this is a no-brainer. It’s the kind of gear that just works, and makes you wonder how you ever got by without it. One batch in, I’m already planning more brew days just so I can use it again, and again

Whether you’re chasing crispy bois, clean IPAs, or smooth stouts, the FTSs Touch gives you that extra level of control, and makes it feel effortless.

From Field to Fermentor: Believing in American Malt

For a long time, homebrewers have been told that imported malt is the gold standard. If it’s not from Germany or the U.K., it’s not the “real thing.” You hear people say they only use Weyermann for lagers or Crisp for English ales. Those are great malts, no doubt, but it’s time we start giving…
